Mark SingleyStudent Loans Q&A co signer, decisions, economy, financial aid, financial pressure, grants, parents, personal expenses, promissory note, school year, unsubsidized loan
I NEED HELP! I filled out financial aid for this school year and I didn’t quite know how it worked. I had a couple grants and I have a subsidized and an unsubsidized loan, but in my MPN (Mastery Promissory Note) it included in my tuition a PLUS loan. I didn’t read on about it, but I now know that it is a loan for my parents to take out. I really need that loan towards my U-Bill and for personal expenses, but I don’t want to ask my parents to have to take out a loan (as the economy is not good right now and I know that would be stressful). I personally will have to pay for my own college either way, but I don’t know if I should have them take a loan out or if I should go to a bank and do it, but either way I will have to have a co-signer.
I’m trying to make the best decisions here, but it’s really hard. I’m active at school and I’m trying to get good grades, so this financial pressure is a HUGE burden on me! Please let me know what you think!

Mark SingleyStudent Loans Q&A financial aid loan, job, loan default, parents, private loan, student debt
Will a private loan default affect my financial aid? I’ve never defaulted on a financial aid loan, only a private loan.
I totally want to pay back the default, but I can’t really get ahead until I get my degree. I’m not shady or anything, I’ve been killing myself without even making ends meet. My parents can’t help. If I could just get financial aid I could finish my degree and try to get a better paying job to pay off my student debt.

Mark SingleyStudent Loans Q&A apartment, auto loan, checks, crap, credit score, federal student loans, loan consolidation, new job, parents, private loans, private student loans, secure credit card, thanks for your help
I have approximately ,000 in Federal student loans and ,000 in Private student loans.
I just graduated and I start a new job tomorrow that pays ,000/year. I never established any sort of credit in college.
I just moved here and in order to get an apartment and to get an auto loan they had to look up my credit score, and my parents had to cosign for each. For the electric bill they had to look up my credit score and finally in order to get a secure credit card they had to look up my credit score.
I know each time someone checks your score it goes down a few points, so I’m assuming mine is crap.
How long should I wait to consolidate these private loans? How long will it take to improve my credit score enough to make a difference? Is loan consolidation a good option for me? Thanks for your help.

Mark SingleyOnline education degree in business administration, parents, relationship, restaurants
What are some legit sites that offer online courses so I can get my degree in business administration? An actual degree and not just a "certification" certificate.
None where I have to attend a school because I’m also focusing on a relationship.
I currently run 4 restaurants for my parents now, and I’m in the process of opening my own up. The thing is I didn’t know there was SOOOO much work on getting my own. And I want this degree so I know I will prepare the place right.

Mark SingleyScholarships and financial aid canadian citizen, green card, parents, permanent resident, pharmacy program, private student loans, st johns university
My friend who is a canadian citizen currently living at toronto, wishes to one day attend st johns university in new york for their pharmacy program.
She will try to get private student loans, but she wishes to get her green card as soon as possible, so she can get federal aid and or fed. loans.
How soon would she be able to get her green card, and what are some options for her and things she could do to help her.
Some extra info: after college/university she wants to work and stay here and one day become a permanent resident.
-her parents dont have the means to pay for college which is why shes taking the private student loans

Update: Thanks.
According to the Canada Revenue Agency, it says you don’t have to. . . . but their rules are so confusing (at least to me).
For future references to other students, I will post this link.
