student loan and grant question?

Hi received a Pell grant and a student loan for school. I read that student loans can be used for anything relating to school even child care costs. I planeed on using my loan for this and the Pell grant for school. I just looked today and it seems they used my loan for my school charges and not my Pell grant. Is there anything i can do to get them to change this?

The school should apply all grant money to your tuition, fees, and books before they apply any loan money because the student must pay back the student loans. Your school cannot request financial aid over the amount of your estimated cost-of-attendance, so you may or may not receive a refund. In addition, you cannot request the loan amount for federal loans… that’s purely up to the school based on cost of attendance, not daycare fees. Are you sure that it was your loan applied to your account and not your grant? I would contact the school’s financial aid office so that you can better understand what’s happening with your account. Has your grant money already been received by the school? If not, they may have used loans to cover your current charges, and may then use your grant money to pay down the loan they used — just another thought of what could have happened.

Depends upon your school’s policies and how much your tuition is per year. You may not have anything left over after all your school costs are paid.

Call you school’s business office or FA office to get an answer.

Your grant money should have been applied first to your account (tuition, fees, books, room and board if living on campus) before your loans. If there is any sort of refund due to you after your school costs have been covered, you can get that money from the school to use on whatever you want.

I would suggest you contact your school’s student accounts/bursar office and ask them about your bill.
