Career Programs Assessment Test

CPAt, also known as Career Programs Assessment Test is the test that is given to students that are looking to attend a vocation/trade/career program. CPAt was developed by the not for profit organization ACT with the help of several career and trade schools. Further more, the CPAt test has been granted the approval of the U.S. Department of Education as an ATB program – “Ability To Benefit” program. What this does is that it allows candidates that do not have a high school diploma or GED to appear for this test and by passing the CPAt provides the candidates the opportunity for both financial and non-financial form of aid.

CPAt provides trade and vocational career schools with a cost effective means to test reading, language usage and numerical skills of potential students. Schools are also encouraged develop profiles of students who have special needs and identify factors that may help the student when it comes to their career development.

CPAt Sections

CPAt As A Test Constitutes three main section. As explained, the three areas of skill that CPAt gauges its test takers on are

• Language
• Reading
• Numerical skills.

CPAt is a paper based test. The duration for the CPAt is 60 minutes. The total number of questions on the CPAt is 60. These 60 questions are split into the 3 sections with 5 questions in the Language section, 30 questions in the reading section and finally 25 questions in the numerical section. The 60 minutes is split as well with language section allotted 15 minutes followed by reading section which has a time of 25 minutes and lastly the numerical skills test is slotted for 20 minutes.

The Language portion (5 questions) of the test examines the ability of the student to punctuate, grammar, spelling, and logical framing of the literature. The Reading portion (30 questions) of the test gauges the ability of the student to interpret, apply and comprehend written matter. The final portion of CPAt,the Numerical Skills portion (25 questions) tests the candidate on basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division along with solving word problems.

CPAt Minimum Passing scores

Below are the minimum passing scores you need to pass the Cpat. The minimum passing score for the language section is 42, reading section is 43 and finally numerical skills is 41.

• Numerical Skills – 41

Your CPAt scores are very important. These scores indicate if a potential candidate has the skills and inclination to benefit from an education in a vocational program. It is essential that a candidate prepares well and does perform well on the CPAt in order to maximize their chances of being accepted into a vocational or career school of their choice.
