ACT Test Sections

Planning on taking up your ACT test soon. It is vital to know about each of the ACT test sections in detail to allow you to prepare thoroughly for the test.

The ACT test has four main sections with one optional writing section.

ACT English Section

The English section has 75 multiple-choice questions. You have 45 minutes as the allotted time to complete the ACT English section. This gives you approximately half a minute for each question. The approach, focus and application of your smartness is more important than your hard work.

ACT Math Section

The ACT Math section comprises of a total of 60 multiple choice questions. You have 60 minutes to complete the ACT Math section. This gives you about a minute for each question.

ACT Reading Section

The ACT Reading section tests your ability to read and understand the given passages. You should be able to understand what is being stated as well as understand what the given statements are implying. The ACT Reading section contains basic reading comprehension. The test itself will contain 40 questions. You have about 35 minutes to complete the ACT Reading Section.

ACT Science Section

The ACT Science section plays the key role in the ACT test. Be prepared to sharpen your skills of evaluation, reasoning, problem solving and analysis during your text preparation phase. In the ACT Science section you will be presented with 40 questions. You have a total of 35 minutes to complete the ACT Science Section.

ACT Writing

The ACT Writing section is optional and sometimes may not be considered very important as many schools do not conduct it. It really depends on where your further education interests lie in. If it is a vocation where writing is important then you probably want to consider taking up the ACT writing section as well. The ACT Writing section takes about 30 minutes to complete. This section consists of a writing about an issue and your points of view on the issue. Your ACT score is not affected in any way by this section of the test.

Now that you are well aware of all the different test sections that make up the ACT, it is time to buckle down and get to preparing for your ACT exam.
